Steve and Maria's place is in Budawang, on Walbunja land, a part of Yuin Country. It nestles between rural farming properties and bushland, with views onto Budawang Mountain to the East and bordered by the Mongarlowe River to the West.
The address is 622 Budawang Road, Budawang, but DO NOT just type this into Google Maps!! You must use this Google Maps pin or the analogue directions below. Both Google Maps and Apple Maps will try and make you take a deep river crossing at the bottom of the property. Reception is patchy, and only Telstra will have signal close to the farm.
You will be on rural back roads, please watch out for wildlife and potholes. In particular there is a wombat that hangs around the road just after the final turnoff from Budawang road to block 622.
From Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra - please ensure you travel to Braidwood and then onwards to the township of Mongarlowe (otherwise you may find yourself at a river which you should not try to cross).
From the coast - if you come via Batemans Bay, you do not need to go into Braidwood - take a right turn off the Kings Highway onto the Northangera Road, 10km from the top of Clyde Mountain. Follow the Northangera road all the way to the Mongarlowe fire shed and then turn right onto Budawang Road. Do not turn off the Northangera Road earlier than this, otherwise you will end up on Private Property.
Take the road to Mongarlowe, next to the park at the top of the hill in the main street of Braidwood. Travel approx.13 km to Mongarlowe. Turn right onto Northangera Road at Mongarlowe, just after the Mongarlowe Riverside bridge.
After about 500 metres, turn left onto Budawang road opposite the fire brigade shed. This is about 100 metres past the end of the sealed road.
After about 1.7km there is a fork in the road. Budawang Road is the right hand road. After another 1.8 km there is a gate. Continue through, past the house and shed, and the road will narrow as it goes into the forest. Continue on past Budawang Mtn. Road on the left and on through another gate.
Around 1.6 km after the gate, take the right hand fork with the sign to 620 - 622 and it’s about hundred and fifty metres to the gate at 620 - 622. Go through the gate and immediately turn left to 622. After another three hundred metres is the gate to our farm.
Go through the gate and follow the road through the paddock. It will take you to a gate in front of the house. If you are not camping please do not enter the gate, but park your car to the left. If you are camping, please go through the gate, keep going past the house and follow the track as it swings to the right and goes through another gate. Follow the road down the hill to the hut and the campsite.
If you are sleeping in a van or similar, we ask that you camp in the paddock in front of the hut. Tents are welcome everywhere! But if you are camping in a tent, please drop off your gear in the ‘drop off zone’ down by the hut, and then park back up on the road (see map below). This is just because everyone will be leaving at different times, and you will likely get boxed in by tents!
There are 2 toilets. One to the right of the hut, and the other is on the right as you enter the campsite. The water tank at the hut is full of drinking water. Please drink as much as you like!
The river is full and beautiful for swimming. The track is less than 50m and starts behind the hut. We’ll see you in the water <3
